June 2026 – Low-Income & Financially At-Risk Students

Students balancing financial stress and academic responsibilities show tenacity and grit. This month, we recognize their challenges and honor the perseverance it takes to pursue education under financial pressure.

“59% of ACC undergraduates are low-income, based on economic disadvantage status, unemployment data, or self-reported income.”

“More than half of students face basic needs challenges, 55% reported housing insecurity, and 48% were food insecure. Our districtwide food pantries (Riverbat Bites) were created to address these insecurities by providing free, nutritious options to all ACC students.”

Low-income or financially challenged students thrive when they have access to robust support systems and resources that address both their financial needs and their academic and personal development. See the direct impact of ACC resources through the experiences of students who have benefited from the College’s support services. In the videos below, Annahie Dominguez and Demitra Bravo share how the Student Emergency Fund helped them navigate unexpected financial hardships, providing critical assistance during times of uncertainty and allowing them to remain focused on their academic goals.

By connecting students to financial assistance, basic needs resources, and personalized support services, ACC helps low-income and financially at-risk students navigate challenges, reduce barriers to success, and stay on track toward achieving their educational and career goals.

Spotlight on Student Resources

Financial Aid: The Financial Aid Office helps students access funding opportunities that make college more affordable, including grants, scholarships, work-study programs, and loans. Through assistance with FAFSA and TASFA applications, financial aid counseling, and ongoing support throughout the academic year, the office helps students identify resources that can reduce financial barriers and support their educational goals.

Financial Coaching: ACC’s Student Money Management Office provides free financial coaching to currently enrolled students seeking to strengthen their financial well-being. Through one-on-one coaching sessions, students can receive guidance on budgeting, credit management, debt reduction, saving strategies, major purchases, and long-term financial planning. These services empower students to make informed financial decisions and build a foundation for future financial success.

Financial Resources: ACC’s Financial Resources hub connects students with programs and services that help make college more affordable and accessible. From financial aid and scholarships to child care assistance, work-study opportunities, free textbook initiatives, and emergency funding, the site serves as a starting point for students seeking support as they navigate the financial aspects of their educational journey.

Celebrating Every Story

Through initiatives like the Faces of Our Mission calendar, ACC highlights the importance of understanding student experiences—backed by research and data—for everyone who shapes learning at ACC. By celebrating cultural heritage, supporting diverse identities, and sharing practical resources, we create an inclusive educational landscape where every student can achieve their goals.

Supporting all students, all year long.
