Uniform Requirements & Dress Code
Uniform Requirements & Dress Code
The ACCFTA requires a standardized uniform for all classes. Each Cadet will be issued an ACCFTA hat, polo, 4 t-shirts, and 4 pair of PT shorts.
Approved NFPA firefighting clothing will be worn by Cadets engaged in all training activities at drill towers, burning buildings, or when required by the instructor for training purposes. Any Cadets failing to meet the appropriate dress guidelines may be relieved of duty until in compliance.
Basic Uniform Requirements:
Cadets are expected to adhere to professional standards of appearance and behavior while wearing an ACCFTA uniform. All uniforms must be neat, clean, and serviceable.
- Cadets will wear the ACCFTA polo shirt. Shirts shall be tucked in and all buttons, except the collar button, shall be buttoned at all times.
- Uniform pants required for the ACCFTA are black BDU’S (Basic Duty Uniform). Blousing uniform pants in dress boots is not permitted.
- Solid black work boots are the only approved footwear. The boot should be a minimum of 8 inches in height to provide ankle protection. Boots shall be kept neat and shined while performing inside classroom instruction. Tennis shoes are only permitted during physical fitness training.
- The belt must be solid black canvas style.
- An ACCFTA cap will be issued to each Cadet. The cap will be worn at all times when in uniform except inside the building or as directed by the instructor.
- Cadets are responsible for maintaining good personal hygiene. Deodorant is required. Hair must be clean, combed neatly and pulled back/up above the collar. Cadets must be clean shaven. Facial hair shall not interfere with the seal and wear of an SCBA.
Jewelry and Piercings
1. Members shall not wear earrings or other body piercing jewelry with one exception: One pair of symmetrical stud-type earrings that are no larger than one-half inch (1/2”) in diameter.
2. Tunnels (large diameter ear piercings) are not allowed due to safety concerns.
3. Necklaces are generally discouraged due to safety concerns but, if worn, shall be placed inside, and remain inside, the shirt.
4. Wedding bands or other jewelry: The only approved rings shall be silicone style; no metal bands or bracelets.
Basic Uniform for Field Training (Outside Training) Sessions:
- Basic uniform pants shall be worn. Shorts or sweat pants may be worn under bunker gear as long as the exercise does not involve live fire training and to the instructor’s discretion. If shorts or sweats are worn, the Cadet must keep the bunker pants on at all times, unless the instructor allows removal.
- Only ACCFTA issued ANSI standard eye protection shall be worn during outside, hands-on training.
Bunker Clothing or Turnouts:
The firefighting ensemble “coat, pant, gloves, helmet, flash hood, boots and suspenders” will be worn when engaging in fire ground training activities. Deviation in this rule may be based on the training skill requirement and will be at the discretion of the Lead Instructor.
- Firefighting ensembles “coat and pants” will be provided by an independent service provider contracted through the ACCFTA. NFPA approved helmets will be provided by the ACCFTA. NFPA approved bunker boots, gloves, and flash hoods will be purchased and used by the student only through the approved vendor by the ACCFTA. At no time will Cadets wear personally procured bunker pants, bunker coat, or helmet.
- All fire protective equipment (clothing, personal tools, hand lights, etc.) used by Cadets are established by TCFP and the NFPA.
