Faces of Our Mission – September: Celebrating ACC’s Hispanic Students
September 23, 2025
At Austin Community College (ACC), every student brings a story—and every story matters. This year’s Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) print wall calendar, Faces of Our Mission, honors the diverse journeys that shape our College community. From parenting students to veterans, from first-generation college-goers to adult learners, it highlights the lived experiences that make our College community vibrant and unique.
Created for all who support student success—whether in the classroom, on campus, or behind the scenes—the calendar invites reflection and connection. Each month features real student experiences, supported by data from the Office of Institutional Research and Analytics (OIRA), reminding us that inclusive, student-centered practices start with understanding who our students are.
“TLED has been designing and developing calendars as sources of information to foster awareness, spark reflection, showcase innovation, and highlight excellence for the past 18 years. These printed calendars have consistently provided a practical way to introduce faculty and staff to services, resources, and tools that help improve the learning environment for students.”
— Dr. Susan Warner-Sanchez, Associate Vice Chancellor, TLED
This year’s calendar continues that tradition, offering insights and data to help ACC faculty and staff support students across all learner groups.
September 2025 – Hispanic Students
For September, we celebrate the cultural heritage, contributions, and academic excellence of our Hispanic and Latinx student community. As a proud Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), ACC remains committed to creating inclusive, affirming learning environments where Hispanic students can excel.
Hispanic students thrive in educational environments that prioritize a strong sense of belonging, cultural relevance, meaningful engagement with faculty and peers, and support for their unique challenges and strengths. To see this impact in action, meet Alexandra — an ACC kinesiology graduate whose journey took her from ACC classrooms to playing basketball and studying kinesiology at Texas State.
By providing culturally relevant resources and support, ACC ensures Hispanic students can fully engage and succeed in their educational journey.
Spotlight on Student Resources
Latin American Cultural Center: One resource that plays a key role in supporting Hispanic students at ACC is the Latin American Cultural Center, also known as El Centro. Serving as ACC’s interdisciplinary center for Latine/x heritage and programming, El Centro provides a welcoming and culturally affirming space for students to connect, learn, and grow.
El Centro’s mission is to increase knowledge and appreciation of Latine/x culture, history, and contributions within Austin and Central Texas, as well as offer a global perspective for the ACC community. Students engaging with El Centro benefit from a combination of academic support, mentorship, and cultural programming designed to enhance the student experience and foster a sense of belonging on campus.
Celebrating Every Story
Through initiatives like the Faces of Our Mission calendar, TLED highlights the importance of understanding student experiences—backed by research and data—for everyone who shapes learning at ACC. By celebrating cultural heritage, supporting diverse identities, and sharing practical resources, we create an inclusive educational landscape where every student can achieve their goals.
