Unless your instructor has provided specific instructions for naming your files, try using this suggested naming convention tips for your documents:
-
Use descriptive names (include a hint to the file’s contents within the name of the file; this will be helpful for the next person who will need to find the file).
-
Use alphanumeric characters. Avoid using special characters, including these:
\ • ` or ’ • = / • < or > • ^ : or ; • | • # • * • (or) •.
? • % • , " • @ • Space ! • + • { or} ~ • -• [ or ]
-
Use underscores ( _ ) rather than spaces.
-
Be consistent in your naming conventions (i.e. ch1_quiz.rtf, ch2_quiz.rtf, etc.).
Example:
Start with your last name, then capitalize the first letter of each word so that filenames read like this:
LastNameCapitalizeEachWord.doc (e.g. DoePersuasiveEssay.doc)
