Zoom Closed Captioning

Generally, it’s a best practice to allow students to control if they want to view captions during Zoom. Captions can be helpful for students with hearing issues, who have another primary language besides English, or just prefer it. Other students may find captions distracting.

Enable closed captioning

  1. To use closed captioning on Zoom, you must first enable it. To do so, login to the web portal, and click on Settings on the left side panel.Settings on Zoom web portal
  2. Navigate to In Meeting (Advanced) and scroll down until you find Closed captioning. Click the slider to enable it. To allow participants to save closed captions, enable Save Captions right below.Enable closed captions on Zoom

With closed captioning enabled, you have three options to supply the captioning after selecting the Closed Caption at the bottom.Zoom closed captions

  1. Assign a participant to type: this option will allow you to select the participant who will type. Make sure to assign the participant before entering a breakout room.
  2. I will type: you will type the captions yourself.
  3. Copy the API token: this option will allow you to use 3rd party CC service.screenshot of self captioning
