The Teaching & Learning Excellence Division’s (TLED) Office of Faculty Development has partnered with Human Resources (HR) and the Distance Education Office to create an experience for new faculty like no other. The programming is designed to launch you into a successful career here at Austin Community College (ACC) and bring ease to your first of many semesters at the college.

Teaching Consultations & Support

The Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) and the Office of Distance & Alternative Education (ODAE) provide comprehensive support in course design, technology tools for teaching, and other high-impact practices that contribute to our Guided Pathways model at Austin Community College (ACC). Spring 2025 Orientation & Onboarding

Come pick up a swag bag with ACC gear, a workbook to follow along during orientation, and your ACC ID. Also, a special guest will be there to greet you! Stop by ACC Highland Campus (HLC), Building 4000:

  • Friday, January 10, 2025: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Date: Monday, January 13, 2025
  • Full-Time Faculty: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. – In -Person – Highland Campus (HLC), Room TBD
  • Adjunct Faculty: The online orientation will be available when they receive their welcome email with instructions on when to complete their online orientation.

Option 1: Virtual Faculty Development Bootcamp

January 15 & 16, 2025: Introduction to Teaching at ACC & Course Preparation

  • DAY 1: January 15, 2025 – 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Online Via Zoom
    • Compensation: $200 – For Full-Time Faculty and Adjunct Faculty with at least one Spring course assigned. This stipend reflects full attendance and engaged participation throughout the workshop.
  • DAY 2: January 16, 2025 – 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Optional, no compensation provided, professional development credit available, in-person event at Highland Campus (HLC) – Please register via this form if you will attend Boot Camp Day 2 in-person at ACC Highland Campus. 
    • Roundtable Sessions on the following topics:
      • Blackboard Essentials for Streamlined Course Management (9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – HLC ACCelerator)
      • Best Practices for Teaching Dual Credit Courses (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – HLC Bldg 2000 | Room 2221)
      • First-Day Tips to Set the Tone for Success (11:30 am – 12:30 pm – HLC Bldg 2000 | Room 2222)
        • Light breakfast (9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. ACCelerator) and lunch provided (12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. HLC Bldg 2000 | Room 2220)

Option 2: Virtual Faculty Development Bootcamp

Asynchronous Online Quick-Start Bootcamp

If faculty cannot attend option 1, then they must complete a 4-hour Asynchronous Orientation. Faculty will be added to a Blackboard Course by Friday, January 24, 2025.

    • Compensation: $200
      • For Full-Time Faculty and Adjunct Faculty with a course assigned.

Distance Education Quality Matters

For faculty teaching courses with a Distance Education Component (HYD, HYC, ONL, DLS, & FLX only). Compensation: $500 stipend for Full-Time and Adjunct Faculty attending and completing QM sessions and alignment table
Option 1: Virtual Session

Date: January 17, 2025

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Attendance is required for both AM and PM sessions.)

TLED Faculty Development Monthly Onboarding Sessions for ALL Faculty

Onboarding sessions differ from orientation in that they dive deeper into understanding what makes for a successful faculty experience at ACC. Faculty will continue to learn about ACC’s culture, student success strategies and resources, course design, and the faculty evaluation process. ALL faculty are encouraged to attend all four sessions during their first semester. These two and half hour sessions are offered in HyFlex and synchronous online environments and include one day and one evening option each month of the faculty’s first semester:
Spring 2025
  • February 7 & 12: Connecting With Your College, Colleagues, and Students
  • March 7 & 12: Evaluation and Portfolio Process
  • April 4 & 9: Student Success Resources
  • May 2 & 7: Teaching & Learning Strategies
Compensation:
    • Adjunct Faculty: $61.80/hour
    • Full-Time Faculty: Professional development credit only
