Availability of Online Testing Platforms (ProctorU, Respondus Monitor and ACC Online Live Proctoring)

ACC currently utilizes three proctoring services that allow students to be monitored during a test that they are taking from home: Respondus Monitor, ProctorU and ACC Online Proctoring.  Each platform has specific requirements and abilities, but all require the use of a webcam and microphone.  Consult your class Blackboard or contact your instructor to see about which platform you will be able to use to take your exams.  If your device does not match the platform your instructor is using to administer the tests, please contact them in order to have the exams made available on a platform compatible with your device.

Availability of testing platforms:

Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor: Windows and Mac PCs and laptops, iPad
ProctorU: Windows and Mac PCs and laptops (Chrome or Firefox browser required)
ACC Online Live Proctoring: Windows and Mac PCs and laptops, Chromebook

Respondus and ProctorU testing is not available on Chromebook.

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor is part of the Respondus LockDown Browser that you download and install to your system and monitors you through a webcam and microphone.  You will need to navigate to your test within the Respondus LockDown Browser to start the exam: do not attempt to start your test through another browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.).  Once you start the exam, you will be prompted for an extensive security check.  Follow the rules and requests of the system in order to take your test.

iPad users will need to download the app from the Apple App Store.  Note: ACC-issued iPads will have the Respondus LockDown Browser pre-installed.

Respondus Requirements:

Windows: 10, 8, 7 (note: Windows 10 S version is not compatible)
Mac: OS X 10.12 or higher
iOS: 11.0+ (iPad only)
Web camera (internal or external) & microphone
A broadband internet connection

ProctorU is an online proctoring service ACC is contracted with for online testing.  Students will be asked to provide three preferred windows of availability to schedule times with live proctors to take their tests.  For the duration of the COVID-19 emergency period, ACC is paying for all normal exam sessions.

Note: due to high demand of the ProctorU platform, students must schedule their tests at least  72 hours (3 days) in advance of their intended proctoring session.  You may be subject to fees if you attempt to test sooner than 72 hours (3 days) out.  ACC will not reimburse these fees.  Availability of testing slots may be limited as well so scheduling as far in advance as possible is highly recommended.

ProctorU Requirements:

Webcam 640×480 resolution 1280×720 resolution
PC Users Windows Vista Windows 10 (10 S not supported)
Mac Users Mac OS X 10.5 or higher Mac OS x 10.13 High Sierra

ACC Online Live Proctoring

ACC has developed an online proctoring platform designed to help accommodate Windows and Mac PCs/laptops and Chromebooks. ACC personnel will watch a student take their exam live through Google Meet using a webcam and microphone.

ACC Online Proctoring hours of operation:

Friday: 9am to 3pm CDT
Saturday: 10am to 6pm CDT
Sunday: 12pm to 5pm CDT

You will need to fill out the request form linked below to request to use the ACC Online Proctoring service. You will be asked to provide 2 preferred windows of availability for which you can be scheduled for a test session. Requests must be submitted at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance of the first preferred window of availability. ACC will attempt to accommodate your most preferred window but be aware that times of high demand may result in alternate windows being selected.  A request must be submitted per test you need to take.

ACC Online Live Proctoring Request Form

Within 48 hours (2 days) of your request submission, an ACC proctor will contact you via email with a Google Calendar invite to a test session based on your instructor’s time limit and deadline. The invite will include a link to a Google Meet meeting space.

Students with a Chromebook will need to install the Google Meet app.  Google Meet on a PC or Laptop will work through your internet browser.  You can download them at the links below:

Chromebook Google Meet: download here

PC/Laptop Google Meet: log in here

At the time of your appointment, you will log into Blackboard, navigate to the test and click on the exam.  Once your proctor arrives and you start the session, your proctor will walk you through a security check and then will allow you into the test.  After the completion of the exam session, your proctor will log you out of Blackboard and then end the meeting.
