George Solano — Professor of Spanish
Mi nombre es Jorge Solano. I teach Spanish courses for ACC’s World Languages Department. As a bilingual and bicultural person, I experience life always at the meeting points of two opposing languages spoken by millions. In Spanish, the phrase “lugar común” refers to a shared concept that everyone in a culture can immediately recognize or connect with. A perfect example is the song Cielito Lindo. A classroom is a meeting place where we try to find and communicate with one another across our cultural and linguistic differences. My current work and research interests include visiting, understanding, and building these bicultural and bilingual safe havens, places where we might one day meet our Spanish or English speaking doppelgängers without fear, under a cielito lindo.
