Why we do this?

We believe that data-informed decision making will lead to increased student learning and completion.

What is Data Literacy?

Data Literacy is the ability to understand data in context and effectively use data to form and support institutional goals. For faculty and instructional staff at ACC, it is to understand how to access, read, interpret, discuss, analyze, and use data-driven decisions to improve programs and student outcomes, and use data to inform their practice as relevant to their role.

Who are we?

Data Engagement for Student Success (DESS) is a project involving full-time and adjunct faculty (including libraries). In addition, we have content experts from Institutional Research (OIRA), the Vice Chancellor of Instruction’s office, the Teaching and Learning Excellence Division (TLED), Adult Education, and Continuing Education. Data Literacy Assessment

Click here to take the ACC Data Literacy Assessment for Instructional Faculty and Related Staff:

As a first step in achieving the goal of the DESS, we are asking you to take the inaugural data literacy assessment. It should take no more than 10 minutes of your time and it is completely anonymous. Please take the assessment only one time.

This assessment will help us to do the following:

  • Identify areas where ACC can meet instructional faculty and related staff where they are on the data literacy spectrum and support them to improve their data literacy.
  • Develop an effective strategy to provide training to increase data literacy.

The deadline to complete the assessment is Apr 5, 2024.

We will assess progress with data literacy on an ongoing, annual basis. By increasing data literacy, we will have more tools available to diagnose and discuss ways to increase student course completion rates.
