In powerful ways, these learners embody ACC\u2019s commitment to expanding access, fostering belonging, and designing learning environments where every student can succeed.<\/p>\n<div style=\"background-color: #f5f5f5;padding: 20px;border-left: 5px solid #ccc;color: #000;font-weight: 500;font-size: 1rem;line-height: 1.6;border-radius: 6px;margin: 1em 0\">&#8220;In fall 2024, 1,606 students documented a disability through ACC\u2019s Accessible Information Management (AIM) System while enrolled in undergraduate, continuing education, or adult education courses\u2014each navigating college with resilience, creativity, and determination.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>Hear from ACC students Aaron and Danielle about NeuroBats of ACCess Autism, a student organization supporting autistic and neurodivergent students at ACC. Through weekly events, participants build social cognition skills, strengthen relationships and leadership, and collaborate with the broader community to foster purpose and belonging.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Celebrate Autism Acceptance Month with NeuroBats of ACCess Autism\" width=\"422\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MPjG1e9iKp4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Zachariah Ohora, creator of the PBS Kids show <em>Carl the Collector<\/em>, visited ACC with Austin PBS and ACC\u2019s Military Families Center for a special screening of the show\u2019s new season. In this video, they discuss the inspiration behind the series, the importance of inclusive programming, and how ACC supports neurodivergent students.<\/p>\n<div style=\"position: relative;width: 100%;padding-bottom: 56.25%;overflow: hidden\"><iframe style=\"position: absolute;top: 0;left: 0;width: 100%;height: 100%\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pt-mXbFZYFQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"margin-top: 1em\"><strong>Spotlight on Student Resources<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/students.austincc.edu\/student-accessibility-services\/\">Student Accessibility Services (SAS):<\/a> SAS advances equitable and effective access for ACC students with documented disabilities, supporting their full participation in college classes and activities. Through individualized accommodations, assistive technology, one-on-one advocacy meetings, and referrals to campus resources, SAS helps remove barriers that can impact student success.<\/p>\n<p>To begin services, students complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/hunter.accessiblelearning.com\/AustinCC\/ApplicationStudent.aspx\">SAS Application<\/a> for Services and Accommodations, submit documentation of diagnosis, and meet with an Accessibility Advocate. Whether students are new to ACC and exploring the process or current SAS participants requesting semester accommodations, the office provides structured, student-centered support that promotes access, independence, and academic achievement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hunter.accessiblelearning.com\/AustinCC\/\">AIM Student Portal:<\/a> ACC\u2019s Accessible Information Management (AIM) system is the College\u2019s confidential accommodation management platform used by SAS staff, students, and faculty to coordinate support efficiently. Through AIM, students can apply for SAS services, request semester accommodations, schedule or modify accommodated exams, access their accommodation records, and receive timely updates and reminders from SAS.<\/p>\n<p>For faculty, AIM streamlines the accommodation process by providing secure access to student accommodation letters, enabling completion of Testing Agreements, and supporting the upload and download of exams. Together, these tools help ensure accommodations are implemented consistently and effectively across the College.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Celebrating Every Story<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Through initiatives like the Faces of Our Mission calendar, TLED highlights the importance of understanding student experiences\u2014backed by research and data\u2014for everyone who shapes learning at ACC. By celebrating cultural heritage, supporting diverse identities, and sharing practical resources, we create an inclusive educational landscape where every student can achieve their goals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking to take the next step in supporting neurodivergent learners?<\/strong> NeuroSpark is a self-paced online training that strengthens inclusive teaching for neurodivergent students using research-based strategies such as Universal Design for Learning, differentiation techniques, and accessibility best practices.
