Each year, the Teaching & Learning Excellence Division (TLED) print wall calendar<\/a> is designed to inspire faculty to take a deep dive into higher education issues, and this year\u2019s edition is no different. This year\u2019s theme is \u201cEmpowering Students by Meeting Basic Needs,\u201d<\/strong> with each month in the calendar highlighting specific essential resources, showcasing how Austin Community College (ACC) and the surrounding community address twelve basic needs through:<\/p>\n Innovative curriculum integration<\/em><\/p>\n Supportive campus resources<\/em><\/p>\n Active community engagement<\/em><\/p>\n The goal of this calendar is to ensure faculty are informed about the essential resources available to students. We hope this will help create an educational environment where all students can succeed. For August, the basic need being highlighted is Housing.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019re committed to ensuring every student has the support they need to reach their goals. Housing insecurity remains one of the most pressing barriers to college completion, affecting students\u2019 focus, mental health, and ability to fully engage in their coursework. Without a stable place to live, students are more likely to miss classes, withdraw from courses, or drop out entirely. By addressing this basic need, we create the foundation for students to not only persist but thrive, academically and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n Stable housing is vital for student success at ACC. We offer tailored housing support to meet the diverse needs of our students. Our services include Housing Agreements and Locator Services to help find affordable accommodations, as well as guidance on temporary housing, shelters, and eviction prevention. We are committed to ensuring every student has a secure, comfortable place to call home, so they can focus on thriving academically and personally.<\/span><\/p>\n Affordable Housing Information<\/b><\/p>\n Resources and tips for finding cost-effective living solutions, as well as Student Advocates available on each campus to assist with basic needs, including housing support.<\/span><\/p>\n Affordable Housing Search<\/b><\/p>\n Assistance in finding suitable accommodations tailored to student needs.<\/span><\/p>\n Eviction Prevention Information<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n Guidance on maintaining housing stability and legal rights.<\/span><\/p>\n Housing Guidance<\/b><\/p>\n Includes options for temporary housing and shelters.<\/span><\/p>\n Severe Weather Information<\/b><\/p>\n Guidance on shelters and resources in the event of natural disasters or severe weather.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
