{"id":6946,"date":"2019-10-09T15:55:50","date_gmt":"2019-10-09T20:55:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/accinsweb8366.wpenginepowered.com\/tled\/?page_id=6946"},"modified":"2025-10-09T23:25:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T04:25:07","slug":"ipads","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/faculty-support\/tools\/ipads\/","title":{"rendered":"iPads"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Teaching with iPads<\/h3>\n<section aria-labelledby=\"ipads-title\">To support mobile, engaging technologies that promote student success, the Teaching &amp; Learning Excellence Division (TLED) provides opportunities for Austin Community College (ACC) faculty to use Apple iPads in their courses.The use of iPads at ACC began with the <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/calendar\/central-archive\/fellowships-archive\/\">2018\u20132019 Digital Fellowship<\/a>, which explored mobile technology to improve student learning outcomes, persistence, and completion.<\/p>\n<p>TLED has since expanded iPad use for both teaching and learning. Faculty can request classroom sets, apply for the <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/faculty-support\/fellowships-and-funding\/fellowships\/acc-course-redesign-fellowships\/ipads-in-the-classroom-fellowships\/\">iPad in the Classroom Fellowship<\/a>, and access articles in the <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/nexus\/\">Teaching &amp; Learning Knowledge Base<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout primary\" aria-label=\"iPad checkout and support\">\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left\">Get iPads &amp; Support<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Check out iPads:<\/strong> Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/faculty-support\/services\/equipment\/\">Check Out Equipment<\/a> page for rules, available equipment, and to submit a request.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Request support:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/tled.austincc.edu\/facultysupport\">Submit the Faculty Support form<\/a>. For ideas on using iPads in your teaching, set up a consultation via the <a href=\"https:\/\/tled.austincc.edu\/faculty-support\/services\/teaching-consultations-and-support\/\">Teaching Consultations &amp; Support<\/a> page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h3>How to check out iPads for your classroom<\/h3>\n<p>The Office of Academic Technology maintains a limited number of <strong>classroom sets<\/strong> of iPads for in-class projects, activities, or assessments. Sets are typically checked out for one class meeting and then returned. Extended checkouts may be considered case by case. Classroom sets are <strong>student-facing<\/strong> and come preloaded with Blackboard, Google Calendar, Google Chrome, Google Docs, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and LockDown Browser.<\/p>\n<p>To request a classroom set, complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/157wzwW85brfzex0rcklNieTYq5IyvlX_xnzmtAzKs_0\">faculty iPad classroom set request<\/a> form. Submit requests at least seven business days before the devices are needed. After you submit the form, we will contact you within 24 hours (Monday\u2013Friday, excluding weekends and holidays) to confirm and discuss your needs.<\/p>\n<h3>Apps<\/h3>\n<p>ACC provides a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1wiJGOfMDqAcKB3GlytvnjOSgdCFToqypyUijV2diLYQ\/edit#gid=1777431106\">free apps<\/a> for course use. A complete list is <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1wiJGOfMDqAcKB3GlytvnjOSgdCFToqypyUijV2diLYQ\/edit#gid=1777431106\">available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Premium (paid) apps may be requested as funding allows. If approved, TLED will purchase the app and make it available only to the requesting instructor\u2019s section(s).<\/p>\n<p>To request apps (free or paid) that are not already available, <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/yVKBWWqR4cLwe4pi6\">submit a request<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Apple coaching sessions<\/h3>\n<p>Faculty can book one-on-one sessions with an Apple Professional Learning Specialist\u2014former educators who can help with instructional design and deeper learning experiences using Apple tools. These sessions are free.
