Here are the eligibility criteria for the Hazlewood Act.
- If you are a veteran.
- You must have served AT LEAST 181 days NOT COUNTING training. Basic and individual training do not contribute to the 181 day requirement. HOWEVER, a DD 214 that indicated Texas as Home of Record/Place of entry, with less than 181 days current active service, BUT with PRIOR active duty service may count, as long as the service adds up to 181 days.
- Honorable OR GENERAL discharge UNDER HONORABLE conditions- nothing else counts. OTHER THAN HONORABLE does not make someone eligible for the benefit.
- Cannot be in default on a state loan.
