How to Read a Poet Like Rumi

November 15, 2019
9:15-10:30 a.m.
Highland Campus Social Staircase

How do we understand and read a 13th century Poet? How do we understand his poems if they were written in Persian? What if the poet was Muslim? What if he was an Islamic seminary teacher? Dr. Keshavarz will talk about how people of different faiths read Rumi’s poetry and connect with it in the West and why we must take care not to divorce his work from his heritage, tradition, and culture.
