Typically non-credit, these courses are designed to be completed over a short period and are competency-based. Micro-certificates are more comprehensive and may consist of several micro-credentials, often equating to a credit course and signifying a higher level of mastery. Both are built and validated through instructional programs and assess skills and achievements in various fields. Micro-certificates are distinguished by a gold ribbon outline on the badge.<\/p>\n<p>Micro-credentials and micro-certificates can be earned by students, faculty and staff. Completing these courses also provides participants with the opportunity to earn an accompanying digital badge.<\/p>\n<p>The development of micro-credentials is more rigorous and requires approval of department chairs and the Curriculum and Programs Committee. The development process may take six months to a year, depending on departmental goals and approval timelines. Developers should also consider funding requirements, course content development within Blackboard and dedicated teaching hours required for the course. In some cases, departments may need to acquire additional funding or resources to build this curricular structure.<\/p>\n<p>Interested in developing a micro-credential?
