DigiTex has been awarded a $645,405 grant from the Greater Texas Foundation to implement a new, ground-breaking project, <i>Harnessing Course Sharing to Support Texas Pathways at Scale<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>On-time credential completion rates continue to be a significant problem for community colleges. Data from the <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/ipeds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Center for Education Statistics<\/a> in 2020 show that only 13% of community college students graduate in two years. In Texas, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/reportcenter.highered.texas.gov\/agency-publication\/almanac\/2020-texas-public-higher-education-almanac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> in 2020 that the average time to complete an associate degree was 3.9 years; meanwhile three-year graduation rates for full-time students were 24.9%, and for part time, 13.1%. Guided pathways have proven to be one effective solution to this problem and <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/cccse.org\/sites\/default\/files\/BuildingMomentum.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a> shows that the practices used in guided pathways programs can lead to better outcomes for students. However, many colleges lack access to courses needed to create and consistently fulfill in-demand pathways and support on-time completion.<\/p>\n<p>This project will address two primary goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increase the number of high-quality, online STEM and in-demand shorter-term courses that are a part of the existing course sharing initiative.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">assist participating colleges in implementing course sharing strategies to ensure learners can access and complete guided pathways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, <i>Harnessing Course Sharing to Support Texas Pathways at Scale <\/i>will contribute to Greater Texas Foundation&#8217;s goal of transfer, transition, and advising as well as the goals of the state&#8217;s higher education plan, <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.60x30tx.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">60x30TX<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two institutions are joining the project as Teaching Institutions (TIs): Western Texas College and Austin Community College. Another nine institutions are joining the project as Home Institutions (HIs): Weatherford College, Vernon College, Cisco College, Ranger College, South Plains College, Paris Junior College, Angelina College, Frank Phillips College, and Howard College.<\/p>\n<p>In the summer and fall 2022 terms, the TIs will begin offering such courses as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CHEM 1311: General Chemistry I\/CHEM 1111: General Chemistry I Lab<\/li>\n<li>CHEM 1312: General Chemistry II\/CHEM 1112: General Chemistry II Lab<\/li>\n<li>PHYS 1301: General Physics I\/PHYS 1101: General Physics I Lab<\/li>\n<li>PHYS 1302: General Physics II\/PHYS 1102: General Physics II Lab<\/li>\n<li>MATH 2413: Calculus I<\/li>\n<li>MATH 2414: Calculus II<\/li>\n<li>MATH 2415: Calculus III<\/li>\n<li>SPAN 2312: Intermediate Spanish II<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also have submitted our first interim report for the grant to the foundation, an important milestone on the two-year journey to project completion.\u00a0We are so grateful to Greater Texas Foundation for its support.
