What is DESS?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Data Engagement for Student Success is a project that focuses on helping faculty increase data literacy to improve student success through various types of training and activities. <\/p>\n<\/div>

We believe that data-informed decision making will lead to increased student learning and completion.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What is Data Literacy?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Data Literacy is the ability to understand data in context and effectively use data to form and support institutional goals. For faculty and instructional staff at ACC, it is to understand how to access, read, interpret, discuss, analyze, and use data-driven decisions to improve programs and student outcomes, and use data to inform their practice as relevant to their role.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Who are we?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Data Engagement for Student Success (DESS) is a project involving full-time and adjunct faculty (including libraries). In addition, we have content experts from Institutional Research (OIRA), the Vice Chancellor of Instruction\u2019s office, the Teaching and Learning Excellence Division (TLED), Adult Education, and Continuing Education. A new assessment will be available in Spring of 2026<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will assess progress with data literacy on an ongoing, annual basis. By increasing data literacy, we will have more tools available to diagnose and discuss ways to increase student course completion rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
