The course evaluation process is led and supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/home\/tled-offices\/office-of-faculty-evaluation\/\">Office of Faculty Evaluation<\/a>. Course evaluations are conducted every semester, and they are required for each course. A <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/faculty-support\/course-development\/course-evaluation\/course-evaluation-faq\/\">Course Evaluation FAQ page<\/a> is also available for reference.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you have any questions regarding the evaluation process and procedures, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/instruction.austincc.edu\/tled\/faculty-support\/services\/faculty-evaluation\/\">Faculty Evaluation page<\/a>, email <a href=\"mailto:facultyevaluation@austincc.edu\">facultyevaluation@austincc.edu<\/a>, or call 512-223-7992.<\/p>\n\n<p>For additional information, please refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/administrative-rules\/?p=1340\">Administrative Rule #4.1201.02<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Updates<\/h3>\n\n<p><strong>Updating Course Evaluation Info:<\/strong> To request changes to the course evaluation course\/instructor information, please submit the <a href=\"https:\/\/form.asana.com\/?k=7C_5En9QiRwDqzIB8hvdGA&#038;d=88303944259432\">Request Form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Course Evaluation Ratings Within Overall Faculty Evaluation Rating<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>There will be several changes to the way ratings will work with student course evaluations moving forward (see a <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1oI5DQ5of0KaU1bPa4lzxbI7jgjB7BXgu\/view?usp=sharing\">sample report here<\/a>). Some of these are a result of the new ratings that will be used with faculty evaluations and the requirements for how student course evaluations will fit in the new faculty evaluation system:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Student course evaluations will be included in the Student Feedback and Faculty Reflection portion of the overall faculty evaluation. The rating for this component will be based on the student course evaluation rating (see below), the student comments, and the faculty reflection on their course evaluations (in the Faculty Reflection Form, question 3) all together.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Student Feedback and Faculty Reflection will be weighted as 20%-30% of the overall faculty evaluation rating, according to departmental requirements.<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Revised Ratings for Student Course Evaluations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>5-point Likert scale<\/p>\n\n<p>The new course evaluation surveys use a revised 5-point Likert scale (recommended by OIRA) of:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>1 \u2013 Strongly disagree<\/li>\n\n\n<li>2 \u2013 Disagree<\/li>\n\n\n<li>3 \u2013 Neither agree nor disagree<\/li>\n\n\n<li>4 \u2013 Agree<\/li>\n\n\n<li>5 \u2013 Strongly agree<\/li>\n\n\n<li>\u2013 N\/A \u2013<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Teaching Dimensions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>In order to provide faculty with clearer information on how their students felt about different aspects of their teaching, faculty will be provided with individual ratings in each of the following &#8220;teaching dimensions,&#8221; based on student responses to particular sets of questions:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n<li>Course Design and Organization<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Instructional Methods<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Assessment and Feedback<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Class Culture<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Student Learning<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>There are also multiple opportunities for students to provide more free-response comments and some unrated questions at the end to help faculty understand which different types of activities students believe are most helpful to them.<\/p>\n\n<p>After 2 years, data from the revised course evaluations will be examined by the Faculty Evaluation Steering Committee to determine if these ratings continue to meet the needs of the college.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Low Response Rates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Student Feedback and Faculty Reflection section of the new Annual Summary Evaluation Forms has a checkbox for \u201cLow Response \u2013 Interpret Ratings with Caution\u201d for situations where there were too few student responses to consider the overall rating as fair to the faculty member:<\/p>\n\n<p>For any class sections where the total number of student responses is less than 20% of the class enrollment or 3 responses, whichever is higher, only student comments and answers to individual questions will be considered in the Student Feedback and Faculty Reflection rating; the overall rating for that class section will not be considered.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Evaluations Are Completely Online!<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EASY ACCESS ONLINE<\/h3>\n\n<p>Students will be able to access course evaluations online via Blackboard. Students will know when the course evaluation is available or about to open, and when it closes.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK<\/h3>\n\n<p>Faculty will be able to see how many course evaluations have been submitted while the course evaluation is open and, after grades are submitted, see evaluation results.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FOCUS ON TEACHING<\/h3>\n\n<p>With course evaluations online, faculty will no longer use precious instructional time to conduct course evaluations. This privilege allows chairs to add users or remove users from their departmental folder(s).<\/p>\n\n<p>As the co-owner of the departmental folder(s), it is important that you regularly review the \u201cShare\u201d settings of your folder(s) and remove any users who should not have access. You are going to see a few TLED staff listed in your share setting; this is because your departmental folder(s) are stored under \u201cInstructional Services,\u201d and the Faculty Evaluation Office staff need access to your folder(s) in order to provide you the course evaluation reports.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you encounter any problem adding users or removing them from your BOX folder(s), you may submit a TDX ticket.
